Teammate Spotlight: Jasmine Nguyen – An Engineer with Heart and Vision

Jasmine Nguyen, a Controls & Automation Engineer, brings to the Team a unique blend of expertise, dedication, and passion for giving back. Before her career at Hargrove, Jasmine worked as a daycare pre-K3 teacher, where she showcased her early knack of teaching and nurturing. Her career path took an exciting turn when she joined the Hargrove team in 2019 as a co-op student at the Birmingham office. After graduating from college, she accepted a full-time role at the Hargrove Baton Rouge office and later moved back to Birmingham.
“Jasmine is the life of the office,” said Robert Arnone, Chemical PetroChem East Industry Leader. “She is always energetic and positive.”
Jasmine currently holds the title of Controls & Automation Engineer, but she is involved in several initiatives outside of her official role. She is particularly devoted to the mentor and co-op programs where she extends a helping hand to other upcoming talent. Jasmine’s dedication to fostering growth and passing on knowledge needed to excel is a testament to her leadership qualities. She hopes to be able to share her experiences as a first-generation college student and female engineer.
“Be personable, be present; that is something I stand by,” emphasizes Jasmine, reflecting on her dedication to fostering relationships and learning.
Jasmine’s commitment shines through her involvement in the Women of Hargrove Embracing & Engaging in Leadership (WHEEL) group. This group, composed of talented female professionals at Hargrove, focuses on empowering and supporting one another’s professional growth.
“I’ve been met with enthusiastic mentorship and a wonderful learning environment on each project I’ve been a part of,” says Jasmine. “Everyone wants to see you grow here and will help where they can to make it happen.”
Another standout project close to Jasmine’s heart is the Hargrove Adaptive Toy (HAT) initiative. This program modifies toy cars to suit the needs of children with mobility limitations. Adaptations such as adding buttons, joysticks, and pediatric wheelchair parts are customized to each child’s unique requirements. These modified toy cars serve a dual purpose – providing children with an opportunity to develop the skills needed to independently operate an electric wheelchair while also creating moments of joy and freedom.
Jasmine is dedicated to the growth of her colleagues and committed to making the world a better place both inside and beyond Hargrove’s doors. Her ability to balance her professional responsibilities with her involvement in the community speaks to her character and embodiment of Hargrove’s values.
Jasmine hails from Bayou La Batre, Alabama, but currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama and is the oldest of three siblings. Beyond her professional life, Jasmine’s creativity and caring nature shine through her dinner parties, where she’s always experimenting with new Asian-American fusion recipes.
In the next five years, Jasmine strives to take on a technical leadership role at Hargrove, leveraging her growing expertise in controls and automation alongside her leadership abilities. Her journey at Hargrove exemplifies the potential for growth for individuals who are passionate about their work.
Jasmine Nguyen has made a lasting impact at Hargrove through her active involvement in key projects and initiatives supporting both her profession and her community.
